Nasty weather predictions of gusty winds, rain, thunder and lightning did indeed materialize, but fortunately not on the Tatlock Road course during the time trial! Only the wind remained. Larry Burge, the fastest rider at 23:23, and Bram Moerman in second place with 24:12, got a thorough drenching when they attempted a pre-race warmup on the course, but Celia McInnis, in 4th place at 26:49, was lucky enough to only have a few seconds of rain a few times during her 80km windy scenic commute from Ottawa to the race. The worst she ran into was probably the wasp which blew into and stuck in her right arm on County Road 8 (she had to pull the wasp out). Third place Al Watson did 25:14, 8 seconds slower than his best this year, while Chad Clifford finished in 27:12, a minute and 2 seconds slower than his season-series best. Here is a graph showing the ABC 15km performances for all of tonight's riders this year. Note that the four of us who had ridden an earlier 15km ABC time trial in 2011 were all slower, with Bram being the closest to his season-series best. Larry Burge was out for his first ABC 15km event in 2011, but he distinguished himself by being only 31 seconds slower on this hillier course than his best 15km race this year on Ottawa's Rockliffe Parkway course, a cube speed ratio of .9351 for tonight's 23:21 relative to the 22:52 which he did on 2011-Jun-30. This is much better than most! Congratulations!
